On the way to….. Iceland  2012

This year‘s big summer trip with our Land Rover brings us to Iceland. To get there with your own car needs quite a bit of time - two nights on the ferry from Denmark with a short stop over at the Faroer Islands.

So I have time to tell you something about our drive from Switzerland to the Ferry Center at Hirtshals in Northern Denmark.

Last year, on the way back from North Cape we wanted to stay at Fanø Island - western Denmark, but the weather didn‘t agree.....

This year everything was better.

Route: HWY to Bad Kissingen (Germany), stop at a small family hotel - HWY via Hamburg to Esbjerg (DK) - (shuttle)Ferry to Fanø Island - HWY to Hirtshals Smyrill Line Ferry Harbour

Fanø is a small North Sea Island in western Denmark. It has a huge sandy beach where in certain parts you are allowed to drive with the car. One can find well equipped campgrounds and the little authentic village Nordby invites you to walk around and have a good danish beer.
